Something About Me…
Welcome to my website. I`m a biologist who likes to draw cartoons.
Born in Germany, I started to draw big noses and my first cartoons at school-age. Later, during my studies of biology, I drew for my friends and a student newspaper. Here, I also discovered the fascinating world of microbes and I got in close contact with different species of bacteria including my favourite – the Bacillus subtilis which has a very fragrant smell of stinky feet. I learned numerous techniques to torture bacteria and then I tested their will to survive in different scientific experiments. Interestingly enough, I started to develop sympathy for these tiny cells whose cries of pain died away unheard in the vastness of the lab. Hmm,…is this maybe the reason why bacteria seem to appear in so many of my cartoons?
Some time ago I moved to Finland to test my torture skills also in northern laboratories. Here, I started to study not only microbes but also larger cell clusters such as mice and humans and discovered new fields of research…and along the way new models for my cartoons.
While studying the mysteries of life I came across many important questions which have puzzled scientists for ages, e.g.:
- What do actually bacteria and laboratory animals do in the lab when scientists are not watching?
- Which secret magic words should be spoken before the experiment to obtain good results?
- Where are all my marker pens gone?
In my cartoons I try to find answers also to these questions.
However, my cartoons are of course not exclusively meant for bacteria fans and scientists as they touch also the real world outside the lab. Some of the presented cartoons I just took from the everyday life whereas others were first born as a strange idea but often developed into something completely different. So, please have a look at my cartoons or my personal favourites.
Have fun!
